In a factorial experiment 432 pigs, initially 21 days old and of average weight 6.2 kg, were given for 42 days maize-based diets with 22, 20 or 18% crude protein each with solvent-extracted soya bean meal or infrared-cooked soya beans only or with equal amounts of protein supplied by the two. Average daily gains were 478, 433 and 456 g for the different sources of protein and the pigs gained 0.56, 0.54 and 0.55 kg/kg feed.
