Influence of low temperatures on the survival of Phytophthora cinnamomi Rands. in soil

Influence of low temperatures on the survival of Phytophthora cinnamomi Rands. in soil

Mededelingen van de Faculteit Landbouwwetenschappen, Rijksuniversiteit Gent 38(3): 1399-1405

Root rot and subsequent wilting of conifers and ericaceous ornamentals are generally caused by P. cinnamomi. Under the climatic conditions of Germany the fungus does not survive in the soil during winter. In artificially infected soil in the Netherlands isolates of P. cinnamomi from Germany and Boskoop did not survive during the winters of 1970/71 and 1971/72 in the 10-cm upper soil layer, but the fungus did remain viable at greater depths.
