Influence of row spacing and plant population on certain agronomic traits in rainbelt cotton

In trials in 1970 with 20 cotton entries sown in rows 10 and 20 in apart at populations of 100 000 and 200 000 plants/ac, irrigation increased yields in all treatments, adding 164 lb lint/ac to the yield of cotton grown in rows 10 in apart at 100 000 plants/ac. Irrigation added 0.2 bolls/plant in all population/row-width treatments. There were 1.5 fewer seeds/boll on irrigated than on non-irrigated plants. In 1971 no supplemental irrigation was required.
