Inheritance of reaction to stem rust and leaf rust in the wheat cultivar Etoile de Choisy

The selection W3498, which is highly susceptible to Puccinia graminis, was crossed with Etoile de Choisy and the reactions of 66 F3 lines to P. graminis and P. recondita were determined. The data indicated that Etoile de Choisy possesses two genes governing reaction to P. graminis: Sr23, a gene causing chlorosis and necrosis of infected tissue which is completely linked with Lr16 for reactions to P. recondita, and a second gene, designated SrEC, previously reported by Bartos et al.
