Investigations on heritability of and phenotypic and genetic correlations between reproductive characters in intensively reared young bulls

Investigations on heritability of and phenotypic and genetic correlations between reproductive characters in intensively reared young bulls

Wiener Tierarztliche Monatschrift 58(4): 167-171

Data on 13 reproductive characters in 124 young bulls, the progeny of 26 sires, were analysed. The following characters had fairly high h2s (1st and 2nd ejaculates resp.): libido, 0.47 and 0.56; sperm motility 24 h after collection, 0.59 and 0.63; forward motility 24 h after collection, 0.45 and 0.32; percentage of detached sperm heads, 0.92 and 0.39. A number of phenotypic correlations were significant and positive, but none was of sufficient magnitude to permit any conclusions to be drawn.
