Isolation of a non-haemadsorbing strain of African swine fever (ASF) virus from a natural outbreak of the disease

Isolation of a non-haemadsorbing strain of African swine fever (ASF) virus from a natural outbreak of the disease

Veterinary Record 94(1): 2-2

In an outbreak of African swine fever in the Transvaal 122 pigs out of about 150 died within nine days. The diagnosis was confirmed histologically and by immunofluorescence, but suspensions prepared from various organs of affected animals were negative in haemadsorption tests, and lysis of cells occurred in buffy coat cell cultures. The strain also produced cytopathic effects in 48-72 hours in LLC-MK2 tissue culture cells.
