In areas with annual precipitation of <500 mm, the use of N fertilizers at >120 kg/ha was unsuitable. In forest zone areas with precipitation of 500-700 mm, N fertilizer was effective on pastures under rain-fed conditions at 180-240 kg N/ha given in 3 or 4 applications during the growing season. Yields of 5000-6000 FU and 1.5-2 t protein/ha were obtained.
