Kurume No.2 was selected from the progeny obtained by back crossing a No. BC.5 X No. SO.108 (see the preceding abstract) hybrid with BC.5 and screening was achieved by dusting 6-day-old cotyledons with powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca fuliginea) spores and dipping 25-day-old roots in a suspension of Fusarium oxysporum f. melonis. Kurume No. 2 proved highly resistant to both these pathogens. Its fruits were of good shape and well netted but the flesh was poor.
