Micromorphology and genesis of terra rossa of the U.S.S.R. and East Europe

Micromorphology and genesis of terra rossa of the U.S.S.R. and East Europe

Zeszyty Problemowe Postepow Nauk Rolniczych 123: 421-427

The genesis, particle size distribution, mineralogical composition and micromorphology of terra rossas were investigated. The soils were non-uniform in composition. Large particles were predominantly limestone and silt-sized particles were predominantly quartz. Mixed layer minerals (hydromica-montmorillonite) predominated in the clay fraction with varying amounts of a kaolinite-halloysite mineral. The contents of free Fe and Al were negligible.
