In studies on the transmission of onchoterciasis in Liberia, Simulium damnosum was found to harbour 5 types of unknown filarial larvae. For comparison, S. kenyae, which lives in the same biotope as S. damnosum does not feed on man, was also examined and 3 types of filariae were observed. The morphology of all these filariae (designated Agamofilaria Types III to X) is described and illustrated.
