New approach on water regime of the Karakum desert plants



Eco physiological foundation of ecosystems productivity in arid zone International symposium, USSR, June 7-19, 1972: 53-57



Data are given on the water relations of 30 species of Karakum desert plants, including ammodendron conollyi and Aristida karelinii, following studies in 1966-9. Average transpiration values throughout the season in A. conollyi and A. karelinii were intermediate among the other species studied at 430-750 mg/g fresh weight h. Differences between highest transpiration values and evaporation from a free water surface reached 6670-8130 mg/g fresh weight per h in trees and shrubs, e.g.
