New possibilities for heat-treating hyacinths

New possibilities for heat-treating hyacinths

Bloembollencultuur 82(51): 1270-1271, 1275

The usual treatment for the control of bacterial yellows (Xanthomonas hyacinthi), i.e. bulb storage at 30 deg C followed by at least 4 weeks at 38 deg , has not been completely successful. Trials have shown that better results can be achieved by giving 4-6 weeks at 30 deg followed by 2 weeks at 38 deg and 3 days at 44 deg , the temperature then being brought back to 30 deg. As 3 full days at 44 deg are required, an extra day will be needed to raise the store temperature to this level.
