Nitrogen fertilization of the potato cultivar Flisak. 1. Effect of increased nitrogen fertilization on yield and chemical composition of the tubers

Potatoes were grown with adequate PK and increasing rates of N up to 240 kg/ha on good soil in 1969 and 1971 and on poor soil in 1970. Highest yields, 35.56 t tubers/ha, were obtained with 120 kg N/ha; yields without N were 26.29 t/ha. High rates of N reduced tuber starch content in all years and vitamin C content in 1969 and 1971. Starch contents ranged from 12.8-14.0% and vitamin C contents from 15.1-19.5 mg/100 g fresh weight.
