Nutria breeding

Nutria breeding

Razvedenie nutrii: 128

Nutria were first imported into the USSR from South America in the 1930s, and the first fur farms, using cage rearing, were set up in Azerbaijan and the Krasnodar region. Not only are the pelts highly valued, but the meat is used for human consumption and is said to have a flavour not inferior to that of young rabbit. The cost of producing a pelt is given as 7-9 roubles, and producers in the USSR receive a price of 11-14 roubles per pelt.
