Abstract
The full-time farm in its agricultural structure function, its size, type of organization, its capacity for development, and its location is still central to farm management and agricultural policy discussion. Max Rolfes to whom this volume is dedicated drew attention to the characteristics of all types of farms: peasant family farms, part-time farms, hired labour farms. The first of the papers discusses the way opportunities for full-time farms are changing regionally and through time while the second discusses their longer-term prospects.
