Physicochemical characterization of a bluecomb coronavirus of turkeys

Physicochemical characterization of a bluecomb coronavirus of turkeys

American Journal of Veterinary Research 35(12): 1549-1552

Physicochemical and biological characteristics of bluecomb virus of turkeys isolated in embryonating turkey eggs are as follows: a ribonucleic acid virus with particles somewhat variable in size (from 50 nm to 10 nm), a lipid solvent sensitive envelope, stable at pH 3, and highly heat stable, although heat labile in the presence of divalent cations but not trivalent cations. The virus has characteristic petal- or pear-shaped projections, giving it an appearance of a solar corona.
