Quantitative studies on the migration and development of Taenia pisiformis larvae in laboratory rabbits

Quantitative studies on the migration and development of Taenia pisiformis larvae in laboratory rabbits

Laboratory Animal Science 24(3): 517-522

Rabbits were given 100 to 155,000 ova of Taenia pisiformis orally and autopsied 10 to 386 days after infection. Larval migration through the peritoneal cavity normally progressed through 3 phases - hepatic, free peritoneal and omental. In disseminated infections larval development occurred also in the diaphragm visceral pleura, lungs, mediastinum, pericardium, and fibrous capsule surrounding the kidneys.
