Racial composition of Helminthosporium maydis and H. carbonum on corn hybrids in normal cytoplasm in Pennsylvania in 1973

Racial composition of Helminthosporium maydis and H. carbonum on corn hybrids in normal cytoplasm in Pennsylvania in 1973

Plant Disease Reporter 58(10): 934-936

From maize leaf and stalk field specimens 141 H. (Cochliobolus) carbonum isolates were obtained; 124 were race 2, 16 race 3 and 1 race 1. The 21 isolates of H. maydis (C. heterostrophus) were 12 race T and 9 race O. In mating types, 82 C. carbonum race 2 isolates were A, 36 type a and 6 were infertile. Three of the race 3 isolates were A, 8 were a and the race 1 isolate was A. Seven of the C. heterostrophus race T isolates were A and 5 were a; 1 race O isolate was A and 8 were a.
