Rapeseed oilmeal. 24. Quality and nutritive value of silage of steamed potatoes with added rapeseed meal not debittered

Nahrung 17(2): 147-152

24. Washed potatoes were steamed and ensiled with 12% by weight of rapeseed oilmeal, the temperature of the mixture reaching the silo being about 80 deg C. At the same time a control silo was filled with potatoes alone. Samples of silage were studied after 4 months. The rapeseed meal substantially improved the nutrient content of the silage, especially its protein content, and also its quality. The fermentation destroyed most of the goitrogens and only trivial amounts persisted.
