A rapid method for separating chlorinated pesticide residues from food fats suitable for GLC analysis is described. Interferences by PCB in qualitative and quantitative analyses are eliminated by micromethod involving repeated Florisil column chromatography and dehydrochlorination of DDT, DDD and BHC with MgO: displacement of peaks clearly differentiates pesticides from PCB species. Residue levels in industrially- and farm-produced cheeses, poultry, lard, sausages, fish, infant milk powder and human milk samples shown in tables indicate extensive pollution especially in lakes and rivers.
