Removal of non-specific agglutination reactions by avian sera to the serum plate agglutination test for Mycoplasma gallisepticum

Removal of non-specific agglutination reactions by avian sera to the serum plate agglutination test for Mycoplasma gallisepticum

Veterinary Record 90(1): 13-14

In addition to the causes of non-specific reactions already known, the use of serum stored at 4 deg C for prolonged periods, or of serum prepared from birds inoculated with sterile P.P.L.O. media gave false-positive results. Dilution of such serum with an equal volume of g.pig serum, preserved by Richardson's method and inactivated at 56 deg C for 30 min., prevented this non-specific agglutination and also eliminated agglutination due to M. synoviae antibodies.
