Resistance to Taenia pisiformis larvae in rabbits. II. Temporal relationships and the development phase affected

Resistance to Taenia pisiformis larvae in rabbits. II. Temporal relationships and the development phase affected

International Journal for Parasitology 3(4): 491-498

Using 12-week-old New Zealand white rabbits, reared free of tapeworm larvae, Heath studied the time taken for the development of protective immunity against Taenia pisiformis. Rabbits were immunized with 9,000 eggs (80% activated oncospheres) and were challenged with 2,500 eggs at 3-day intervals thereafter. Protective immunity was apparent in vivo from 9 to 12 days and in vitro from 12 to 15 days after immunization.
