Response of spring wheat cultivars to mineral fertilizers on grey-chestnut soil in the Volgograd Province

In trials in 1970-1 with 4 spring wheat cultivars given 20-40 kg N + 30-60 kg P2O5/ha, application of 40 kg N + 60 kg P2O5/ha gave the highest average yields of 2.01 t/ha in Al'bidum 43, 1.49 t/ha in Melyanopus 1932, 1.94 t/ha in Saratovskaya 38 and 1.98 t/ha in Kamyshinskaya 3, compared with respective yields of 1.71, 1.3, 1.57 and 1.58 t/ha on plots given no fertilizer. N and NP increased grain protein and gluten contents.
