Seasonal variation in the composition of the volatile oil of the leaves, buds and twigs of White Spruce (Picea glauca)

Seasonal variation in the composition of the volatile oil of the leaves, buds and twigs of White Spruce (Picea glauca)

Canadian Journal of Botany 50(7): 1595-1603

Gas-chromatographic analysis of the volatile terpenes of the leaves, buds and twigs of P. glauca confirmed that major changes take place only in the new shoots in early summer. The relative amounts of beta -pinene, limonene and myrcene in the volatile oil of the buds change significantly during autumn and winter. The quantitative composition of the volatile oil of the leaves and twigs, however, remains constant during late summer, autumn and winter.
