Seed weight, seed dimensions and protein content from portions of the wheat spike

Grain from the top portion of ears of wheat Mexipak and Giza 155 and of the strains A 56-109 and A 56-129 was significantly shorter and narrower, had a similar 100-grain weight, but had a lower protein content than grain from the central or lower portions of the ear. Grain from the lower portion of the ear had the highest protein content (12.5-13.6%), whilst grain from the central portion of the ear had the highest 100-grain weight (4.02-5.09 g).
