Abstract
Out of 133 varieties tested by inoculation of seedlings in glasshouse conditions, 102 showed resistance to one or more of the five physiological races and five main categories were distinguished on the basis of this behaviour. Category II, comprising Appler, Bond, Saia, Victoria and some related varieties, differed from category I (Bondvic, Landhafer, Santa Fe, Trispernia and related lines and varieties) only in showing susceptibility to race CS1. The members of both were highly resistant or immune to the other races. In addition, Ag313 (CI7145), in category I, and several varieties in categories III, IV and V showed resistance to P. graminis.
