Sierra Leone economic survey: Agriculture: the future looks bright if backing is given; Rice: too little, too much

After years of pursuing a low producer price policy, resulting in smuggling from neighbouring territories and farmers having no incentive to increase production even with recent record world commodity prices, Sierra Leone has adopted a changed policy. The Sierra Leone Produce Marketing Board (SLPMB) and planners have agreed that if the farmer is to respond the highest producer prices possible must be paid.
