Abstract
In field experiments with 15N on soil of high clay content, native soil N comprised 63-88% of the total N content of rice plants at harvest time; it originated mainly from N liberated in the early and middle stages of growth. Since the plant's capacity for N uptake differed little between early and later stages of growth, the difference in soil N utilization between the two growth phases was attributable to differences in the temperature-controlled release pattern of soil N.[318:221.17:116.17.012].
