Spring flight and adult activity of the White Pine weevil, Pissodes strobi (Coleoptera : Curculionidae), on Sitka Spruce in western Washington

Spring flight and adult activity of the White Pine weevil, Pissodes strobi (Coleoptera : Curculionidae), on Sitka Spruce in western Washington

Canadian Entomologist 107(3): 251-256

Reports studies during 1971-73 of the flight patterns, sex ratios and ovipositional activity of Pissodes strobi on Picea sitchensis in a 10-year-old plantation in Washington. Daily catches of weevils in barrier traps were greatest between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and corresponded with the warmest air temperatures. The flight season lasted seven weeks in 1972 and 10 weeks in 1973, with peak catches in May in both years.
