Stimulation of pituitary prolactin and TSH release in lactating and proestrous rats

Stimulation of pituitary prolactin and TSH release in lactating and proestrous rats

Endocrinology 94(2): 503-508

Plasma prolactin and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) were measured by radioimmunoassay in lactating rats after treatment with ether or nicotine, injection of thyrotrophin-releasing hormone (TRH) and suckling. TRH (100 ng and 100 mu g) significantly raised plasma prolactin within 2 min of injection, the concn. returning to basal level 10 min after the 100 ng dose but remaining elevated for >30 min after the 100 mu g dose.
