Mother plants of the cvs Choot Hashani (easy to root), Orpheo and Lavender Perfection (both difficult to root) were either grown under Saran screens, which reduced the light intensity available to the whole plant, or the shoot bases were individually shaded before cuttings were taken. In the first method the plants were either shaded completely or shaded for part of the day according to the position of the sun.
