Storage life of DEAE-dextran-containing foot and mouth disease vaccine for pigs

A monovalent (type C), ethylenimine-inactivated, DEAE-dextran FMD vaccine, after storage at +4 deg to +6 deg C for 2 years, was fully effective and met the West German government regulations. Of 12 pigs vaccinated i/m, 10 were completely immune to challenge with virulent virus by contact infection 21 days later, one developed typical FMD lesions on two feet, and one a doubtful FMD lesion on one foot.
