Strongyle infection in horses

Strongyle infection in horses

Helminth diseases of cattle, sheep and horses in Europe,: 115-126

Experimental investigation of the life cycle of S. vulgaris revealed a migration of larvae to the mesenteric arteries, a period of development there, and finally migration back to the large intestine. The prepatent period is six months. The pathological effects of the infection are due to inflammation in the arteries caused by migrating larvae.
