The effects of application of N on the solubility and digestibility of the total N in forage crops were studied on hay of Italian ryegrass and of Digitaria ciliaris. Samples were collected at various stages of growth and were extracted successively with water, 0.3% NaOH and hot-alkaline-alcohol, the total N in the fractions then being determined. Total N digestibility was studied in trials using rabbits and sheep.
