In embryos receiving 3H-thymidine, mitotic index (MI) and labelling index (LI) of presumptive myoblasts were estimated, and the duration of the mitotic cycle and its components was assessed. The proliferating index (PI) was calculated. LI and PI values were similar in the pectoral, biceps femoris, and complexus muscles at day 9, but fell fastest in complexus muscle during days 10-13. However, at day 16 LI and PI were highest in complexus muscle.
