Studies on phenotypic and genetic parameters and on the improvement through selection of important fertility traits in Konya Merino sheep

Studies on phenotypic and genetic parameters and on the improvement through selection of important fertility traits in Konya Merino sheep

Ankara Universitesi Veteriner Fakultesi Dergisi 19(3): 349-363

Breeding records for 500 Turkish Merino ewes, obtained over 6 yr (1965-71) in a flock in the Konya region, have been analysed. The effects of year and of age of ewe were significant for the number of lambs born/ewe mated (A), number of lambs weaned/ewe mated (B), number of lambs born/ewe lambing (C) and number of lambs weaned/ewe lambing (D). For the 4 characters (A-D), the av. number of lambs increased with age of ewe up to 5 yr, after which it declined.
