Studies on the artificial insemination in the domestic fowl. III. Sperm concentration of semen at collection and sperm quality of the semen

Studies on the artificial insemination in the domestic fowl. III. Sperm concentration of semen at collection and sperm quality of the semen

Memoirs of the Faculty of Agriculture, Kagoshima University 8(1): 355-366

Ejaculates of high, moderate or low sperm concentration were collected from a fertile cock, and semen of the 3 types obtained from several cocks was pooled. Sperm concentration had a highly significant effect on sperm lifespan, lifespan and motility being greatest at low concentrations and lowest at high concentrations. The lifespan of spermatozoa in Ringer's or Lake's solution was shortest at high sperm concentrations and almost equal at medium or low concentrations.
