Studies on the classification of the forest site unit in Ibaraki prefecture (II). Variation of the nutrient content in Sugi (Cryptomeria japonica) needles according to tree age, site quality and forest site unit

Journal of the Japanese Forestry Society 54(3): 74-79

Analyses were made of the variations in nutrient content of current-year needles of C. japonica trees in stands 19-62 years old of various site-index classes from three forest-site units classified by climatic, geological and topographical characteristics. There were no significant differences between age classes in foliar content of N, P, K, Ca and Mg except for N in the case of one site unit where the soil was very low in N.
