Studies on the inhibition of RNA synthesis by phalloidin in primary cultures of fetal cells

Phalloidin inhibited RNA synthesis by c. 60% in 24 h in primary cultures of human foetal lung. It was inactive in cells subcultured after trypsin or collagenase treatment or in cells plated with some batches of foetal calf serum. The phalloidin effect was specific for some tissues and was dependent on the developmental stage of the tissues used. It was active in primary cultures of human foetal lung and intestine but inactive in cultures of kidney or liver.
