Study of the effects of different early-maturing rice varieties and different culture practices on the yield and quality of the subsequent tobacco crop. 1. Experiment on the direct-sowing of different early-maturing rice varieties

In order to improve the performance of rice and the following interplanted tobacco crop, (a) Taichung chau-yu 155 and (b) Taichung 186 were direct sown on (c) 23 June, (d) 28 June or (e) 3 July or (f) were transplanted. Yields of (c), (d) and (e) were 8.3, 4.3 and 10.9% higher, respectively, than that of (f). Yield of (a) was 2.9% higher than that of (b). The number of panicles/m2 was lower in (f) than in (c), (d) or (e) and higher in (a) than in (b).
