Sweet cherries on the highly calcareous soils of the Crimea

Sweet cherries on the highly calcareous soils of the Crimea

Trudy Gosudarstvennogo Nikitskogo Botanicheskogo Sada 58: 5-25

Cultivated cherries frequently suffer from chlorosis in the Crimea, but certain cvs showed remarkable resistance to excess Ca. Resistance was found in both local forms and cvs of West European origin. Severe chlorosis reduced yields and, in association with other disorders due to unfavourable conditions, killed the trees. Changes in the chemical composition of the affected leaves, however, were not directly related to the degree of chlorosis.
