The effect of interstocks of dwarfing rootstocks on the growth, fruiting and winter hardiness of apple scion cultivars

The effect of interstocks of dwarfing rootstocks on the growth, fruiting and winter hardiness of apple scion cultivars

Biologiya i Agrotekhnika Slaboroslykh Derev' ev Yabloni: 32-38

In 5 years' trials with 7 apple cvs the growth vigour of trees with a Redleaved Paradise interstock was similar to that of trees grafted onto dwarfing rootstocks. Deep planting with the interstock underground somewhat reduced the dwarfing effect. An inverse relationship was found between the size of the clonal interstock and the growth vigour. The start of bearing and productivity during the first 5 years were similar for trees with interstocks or root-stocks of the same clone.
