The effect of protein loads on plasma amino acid levels

Nine young adults fasted overnight. At 0900 h each was given 0.65 to 0.85 g of steak or ham protein/kg bodyweight. Blood samples were taken fasting and 2 h after the meal from all; further samples were taken 3.5 and 5 h after the meal from only 2 subjects. Blood was also collected from another subject during the first 2 h after a meat meal containing 1.2 g protein/kg bodyweight given at 0930 h and from between 2.5 and 8 h after a similar meal taken at 0800 h on a different day.
