The effect of rate of nitrogen application on three consecutive crops of forage maize grown in one season under irrigation at El Hassa, Saudi Arabia

In trials at Hofuf, Saudi Arabia begun in June, 3 successive forage maize crops were obtained in the succeeding 232 days giving total yields of 20.7 t DM/ha with N applied monthly at 80 kg/ha. The 3rd crop gave only about 50% of the yield of each of the 1st 2 crops because of lower temperatures. Average contents in the DM for the first 2 crops were 9.1% CP, 25.8% CF, 13.1% ash and 14.4% total available carbohydrate.
