The effect of the preceding crop on the yield and quality of spring barley

The effect of the preceding crop on the yield and quality of spring barley

Rostlinna Vyroba 19(9): 953-962

A polyfactorial trial at Kromeriz in 1968-70 tested the effect of winter wheat or sugar beet as the preceding crop for spring barley Valticky and Diamant given various rates of N and sown following various seedbed preparation techniques. Grain yield, N uptake and grain malting quality of barley were lower following wheat than following sugar beet. The decreases following wheat were less in Valticky than in the high-yielding Diamant.
