The effects of feeding level in early lactation on single suckled calf production from the February/March calving herd

The effects of feeding level in early lactation on single suckled calf production from the February/March calving herd

Experimental Husbandry (24): 105-113

February/March-calving single-suckling Devon X Friesian cows and heifers in England were housed and given 36.3 kg silage daily in late pregnancy and this quantity of grass silage either alone (L) or with 1.4 kg rolled barley and 2.3 kg molassed sugar beet nuts (H) daily from calving to turn-out to grass in early May. Some calves were creep-fed from late August to weaning at the end of October.
