The experimental cultivation of Karelian birch in the Latvian SSR

The experimental cultivation of Karelian birch in the Latvian SSR

Lesn genet, selektsiya i semenovodstvo: 294-300

In 20-year-old plantations grown from seed of Karelian origin, 40% had the characteristics of the Karelian birch. The form was also found to occur naturally in 36 places in Latvian forests. In some cases, the typical timber character of the Karelian birch did not appear until the trees were 22 years old, while in others it was present at first and then replaced by Betula verrucosa features.
