The performance of laying hens fed on rearing and laying diets containing urea



British Poultry Science 14(2): 153-160



The effect of urea on laying was studied in 2880 light hybrid pullets. Birds were given one of 3 low-protein rearing diets from 7 to 20 weeks of age. The control rearing diet had 11.5% crude protein, and the others had 13.2% either from conventional sources or 11.5% conventional protein and urea equivalent to 1.7%. At 20 weeks pullets were allocated to laying diets formulated to meet essential amino acid requirements.
