Ethylene gas and CO2 emanations were found to be correlated in developing and senescing carnation flowers. Any treatment which delayed development and senescence also reduced or delayed ethylene emanation, regardless of its influence on respiration. With Hibiscus rosa-sinensis abscission zone explants, ethylene and abscisic acid (ABA) levels were found to be related.
