The carrier-effect (see Boak et al., Antibiotica et Chemotherapia (1969) 15, 98) was used in an attempt to break tolerance while raising antibodies to guinea-pig alpha -lactalbumin and mouse lysozyme. A portion of the antibody to guinea-pig alpha -lactalbumin cross-reacted with the auto-antigen, rabbit alpha -lactalbumin.
